Faculty Senate Executive Committee Report September 4, 2003
The executive committee of the faculty senate has met six times since the end of the 2002/2003 academic year. Two of the meetings included Vice President Arnold, and one additional meeting included President Scanlon. Various topics were discussed at these meetings, among which were changes in the Board of Regents policy concerning grievances minimal changes to the faculty active career award program plan to begin to implement salary parity across campus plan to integrate a faculty peer review system possible evaluation of administrators parking issues Western tuition compared with other state institutions new residence hall approved Fulkerson Center new faculty grievance procedures possible faculty senate office space on campus matters related to appointments for senate committees schedule and agendas for AY 2003/2004 senate meetings concern for curriculum revisions "fast-tracking" Missouri Association of Faculty Senates (MAFS) meeting
Critical issues facing the faculty for AY 2003/2004 include the following: integrating department peer review suggestions/assessments into a campus-wide system of peer review and evaluation the possibility of adopting an "up-or-out" tenure system, as recommended by last year's promotion/tenure committee implementation of a comprehensive enrollment management policy analysis and/or adoption of a comprehensive "dual-credit" policy working with administration for a salary equity plan matters associated with Western's adoption of the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) accreditation system
In addition to the above list, other equally important issues are bound to arise; as they do, we shall meet the challenges as they are presented.
